“Okay, there is no place like home…”
That’s exactly what biological families use to play on our conscience anytime they want us to travel and spend some time with them. Most people think home is just where you go to, eat so much food and get fat. I think it’s far beyond that.

How about those people whose biological families have made hell out of their lives? What about those whose parents can never ever believe in their dreams or support them even when they can? How about a place siblings don’t have compassion towards another, a place where it is difficult to get help from the people nature gave you as family? How about a place where the parents have everything it takes to assist you and make that dream come true but they prefer you aren’t worth it as they don’t even trust you a bit? Yet they’d give you food, get you fat but don’t care how useful you become in life. You don’t know one who is at home by how fat he or she has become but by how fulfilled they are.

How about these places… Are they homes?
Aha! Home is a place you aren’t just given fish to eat but also a place you are thought how to fish! Home is a place you aren’t just given foods to eat but a place you’re given seeds that grows into the future!

How about those people who grew up knowing no one as their parents or siblings? Yet, many found home elsewhere, not even by adoption but by association.

My curiosity sponsored a search on what home means. I admit it would mean a place where one’s family lives but it also means a place where something or someone began to progress and flourish! Family can be found elsewhere though and I believe no place will really be like home if home is a place I feel loved, cared for and supported. This leads me to say that home may not really be that place you have your mother, father and siblings. That could be home if they make it a home but home is also anywhere you are and you feel loved and your dreams begins to manifest because you’re encouraged!

If you’re at your family house but miss your own apartment everyday, it’s either they never made it a home for you or you never made it a home for yourself. Jesus said his family is His followers, people who believe in Him and what He is out to do… They are actually the ones that makes Him feel at home.

Next time we say “there is no place like home, let’s put it in the right perspective” because a lot of people have a home that isn’t about their biological family. Well, I know I may find homeliness in my biological family, I also know I find home in the midst of certain people and in the company of certain persons… It’s like being with someone and feeling like doing it forever because they help bring out the best in you!

I agree anyway, there is no place like home. The problem is usually that we only think home as just a certain place regardless if our dreams and greatness gets the cold feet there. The Bible says
:
“…But there is a [true, loving] friend who [is reliable and] sticks closer than a brother.” – PROVERBS 18:24 AMP

“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.” – Proverbs 17:17 ESV

When you find friendship in your family, the bond has become ever stronger! Big shout out to those families who aren’t just connected biologically but also connected by friendship. The family is actually where friendship, love and support ought to have full expression!

And right now, be intentional about making your presence a home, be intentional about making your kids find home in you so that you don’t even have to remind anyone “there is no place like home”. Personally, I know my my kids and my wife will understand ” home” better as they’ll find the expression in me.
