April 1, 2018… 4:20pm… Location: Genesis Cinema, Asaba
:
I wasn’t bribed by the free popcorn and soft drink, I still wasn’t happy that they published wrong schedule of movies but the thought of it being just a week old kept my temper at the lowest possible temperature. They are organized and better than where I had always been anyway. I was going to watch another movie, they would scare us again making us believe its almost impossible for people not to cheat on their partners. That’s what the movie was about anyway. All through the process of ticketing and waiting for the screen rooms to be ready, I noticed this double pierced-ear young lady staring at me. I wouldn’t say she was admiring me because that may sound too ambiguous or as quick conclusion. I pretended I didn’t notice her as something in me just didn’t accept her, not because she looked sexy, not because she had double piercings… I have always never had anything against it!
:
We had moved into the Screen room and she was walking slowly so I can catch up but I also soft pedalled. She moved to her seat, I moved to a different row and was set to enjoy a movie. Not long, a hand tapped from the back and it was her. She said “are you enjoying the movie alone? I am coming to join you on this row.” She did… Sparked up conversations and we talked.
:
I am no longer that small not to know where someone is going. Our talk started digressing into something more serious and she even asked if am sleeping over in the city, asked if I have a girl friend and some other information. I knew the truth would keep me on the safer side, sometimes she would even want her body to touch mine while we watch. When I pick up my phone to check my chats she would switch it off and say “you can’t be doing two things at the same time… Focus here.” That was a good quote but I never needed it at that time. I was also surprise how she was trying to manipulate me, a stranger! That was strange!
:
At times, we let such situations play out because we love the fact that someone is chasing after us, it makes us feel special right? But now, that isn’t in the list of what I want in life anymore. I didn’t even bother asking for her name and she might have forgotten that line. My phone rang, it was a lady and we talked. She was mute for sometime and then said “is that your girlfriend? I could hear a female voice over the phone.” I felt like shouting into her ear “this woman… Leave me alone to concentrate on this movie!” But I kept my cool
:
When some sexual related stuff was mentioned in the movie she would turn and ask me “what did they just said now? Condom? Dildo?” I wouldn’t know how to shape my mouth to mention it so I would try my best to pretend I didn’t hear her. She doesn’t even understand that everyone isn’t that free and open type who gets along in just a meeting! As far as I know, I was becoming bothered. I silenced her a bit with “I am engaged… I have a woman out there. Thank you!” Don’t ask me if I lied or said the truth, she received my message very well.
:
The movie wasn’t over and I stood up, she was staring at me… I walked out of the screen room to go join my friends at the mall. Why did I act that way? I wasn’t being hostile to her, I was simply trying not to give room for pressures! This is what many people don’t do, they give room to pressures, give people the impression that they are available and therefore expose themselves to unnecessary association.
:
God gave us a powerful tool called instinct, learn to use it! Its not everybody you should give phone numbers, have a date with or give an opportunity to come into your life. This is how some ended up dating married men, not because it was what they wanted but because they gave room for pressure! I remember a lady asking that she visit me in my apartment, my instincts didn’t agree with that and I said “no” but because she already have my contact, she kept mounting pressure on me that I almost asked her to come so I could rest but I held on a little more! Had she never had my contact, the pressure would have been avoided all together!
:
There are people you meet, they want to connect with you but something in you is telling you “this is not a right association for you”… You just have to end it there! Leaving any chance might sweep you off your feet! Joseph didn’t say “no” to Potiphar’s wife and remained there. He knew he might still succumb to pressure! He had to flee so that no chance would be left! For the believer in Christ, the Holy Spirit guides us too but we decide if we listen or not!
:
You meet some stranger on the social media or real life, they start saying some things and you already know what they want from you, yet you go ahead playing soft, trying to be harmless and very polite, they send you some gifts and you accept making yourself more available to them! Just a little pressure you’re on your way to pay them a visit but you sure do know something in you is warning you against them but you insist… Most times, it puts you in a mess which you live to regret.
:
I put so many things into consideration always! Will this question my faithfulness to God? Will this question my faithfulness to the people who look up to me? Will this question my faithfulness to my future spouse? I believe that whether I have met her or not, I ought to be faithful to my future spouse too by being faithful to myself.
:
I know I have met some friends as strangers at first, some I even went to visit on my own for the first time but I also know there are others I ignore or even block when something in me tells me they aren’t right for me which also agrees with the kind of messages they send to me.
:
In summary,
Don’t give any chance to the devil. Some of them may have gifts for you but it will never satisfy you or solve your needs. Believe me, when the occasion calls for you to ignore, block or flee… Just do it and save yourself a lot of stress.
:
God bless you!
