Being compassionate is not a temperamental state; it is not something that comes involuntarily but something that we decisively become. Sometimes we come across people who are said to be compassionate by nature, this people did not wake up one day and become compassionate; they were trained into it or they found themselves in an environment where being compassionate has become tradition and it became the very part of their existence. In that regard, no one is wired not to have compassion on people; it is people who just chose to become jungle beings or compassionate beings.

:

The decision to become compassionate is not always something that people made directly. Most times, it comes from the perception of life one has chosen to yield to. How we view life greatly influences how we live life, our life is guided by our thoughts. I have personally come to a point in life where forgiving people have become one of the most easiest thing for me, I didn’t just wake up to see myself become like that. It started from the time I understood that everyone can become better when we give them the chance, not a chance or two chances but chance of a lifetime. It may look like the most stupid thing to do, but it is those chances that have always produced mighty men out of wretched and wicked people. Saul of Tarsus became Paul because he received the chance of a lifetime.

:

Our word to people can greatly show how our heart is. When the words of our mouth are filled with sweet things especially in distressful times, we discover that we are the only reason some people will smile. There are people whose words lack those things that sweeten the heart and lighten up people’s face; their hearts are not right because it has been filled with thoughts of hatred. A certain man I met told me that he has nothing to do with his neighbors in the street; he said he trusts none of them and that he is sure they all hate him. Because of the thoughts he have filled his heart with, he doesn’t associate with anyone in the street, accept greetings nor even help their children. He forgot to note that he is not a good person too. A good man cannot be hidden, his heart is known via his actions and speech. Jesus said as noted by Luke in the 45th verse of the 6th chapter

:

“A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart if full of”

:

From the above statement, you will discover that what determines a man is the state of his heart. People become what they store in their heart; people act what they have become.

:

One of the great things about Jesus when he walked on the face of the earth is His compassion which greatly affected how He treated and communicated to the women, the down trodden, the rejected and the forgotten. Jesus was compassionate with those people who seemed not to have a voice, whose voice seemed not to matter. There was never a single record where Jesus quarreled with sinners, women and the despised; His problem with the Jewish leaders was basically because of their uncompassionate heart. Even at that, Jesus expressed compassion for the Pharisees, Scribes and others who spearheaded his killing and He prayed “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23:24) even in the face of their hatred for Him.

:

I have been criticized for being very compassionate with people even when it seems very controversial. I have always been accused of seeking cheap popularity when I take such stands but right inside me, I can’t do otherwise but stand with the despised. That is just what I have been built into by the perception of life I have chosen to live with. Compassion isn’t quiet, it speaks loudly and it acts! The Bible records in Matthew 20:34

“Moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes; and immediately they regained their sight and followed Him”

:

It is compassion that moved Jesus to do those great and mighty things recorded in the Bible. When last were you moved by compassion? When last was our good works based on compassion and not what we might end in return?

:

Today, say something sweet to someone, do something special for someone, try to see something admirable in someone you don’t like and learn never to write people off! With compassion, Christians will record more breathtaking miracles and of course make the world see more of Jesus in them.

:

If you really do find it difficult to have compassion on people, you need to deal with your perception, you need to change how you see life and see it the way Jesus would. Jesus didn’t condemn sinners, don’t! Jesus didn’t fight those against him, don’t! Just give everyone a chance… BE COMPASSIONATE even when they are not!
