At our very small age, we were told about sunlight and moonlight! Moonlight seemed to be more celebrated than sunlight as we had moonlight stories, moonlight dance and all that.
.

When Grandma visited, we would sit around her feet in the sitting room just to hear her tell us stories! She told us about the tortoise, about the Lion, king of the forest and about the deaf hunter! There were just lots of stories we’d hear every night as we celebrate the moonlight!

.

I discovered I could tell stories because of these celebrated time! Grandma or Mum would ask us to tell a story one after another and I would always want to do something different and new and I will end up making up a story to tell! Then, I started writing them on papers…

.

I am talking about the moonlight anyway.

.

When we graduated into the secondary school, I could visit the school library and certain things could always pick my interest! I started questioning lots of things which included who created God, who created who created God and all that! As I thought of these things, my head could begin to ache and sometimes I become afraid of running mad!

.

My curiosity led me into doing lots and lots of research! I wanted to know these things and I wanted to be sure what I believed in was true! That was in my JSS 1 at St. Christopher’s Junior Seminary School, Onitsha. I was also very curious about the Church and how denominations came to be! So many things were on my mind most especially on the issues of the universe!

.

I abandoned everything I was supposed to read about and started reading books about the universe, the milky ways, the asteroids, the meteoroids, the UFOs, the Stars, the Planets, the Satellites and so on! It was so interesting that it got almost all of me! I could read about the universe for days without getting bored and I even wanted to study astrology. One of my biggest desires wasn’t just to visit the moon but to live there!

.

I wouldn’t want to share all I learnt because that’s not what am here for but I want to say something about the moon… Yes, the moon!

.

First, the moon has no light but the light we see at night has been credited to the moon. The moon is an opaque object, it is not transparent and has no light of its own! It is as opaque as a mountain and it has no gravity! That is to say, when you throw something up in the moon, it may just keep going up! Okay… I just want to talk about the light we call moonlight.

.

Do you know that the sun shines all the time? Even the moonlight is simply a reflection of the light from the sun? Hmmm… Don’t be confused! Let me explain more…

.

The moon is opaque and doesn’t have any light of its own just like the earth. The earth spins around which its completion makes one day. As the earth spins around, it takes us out of the reach of the sun which brings the night but something happens. The moon is above the earth and the moon rotates round the earth which its completion brings a month! Because the moon is above the earth, the light of the sun reaches it all the time and during the nights, we would see the moon shining. The moon has no light but because the moon is connected to the sun, the moon is shinning to an extent that it is believed that moon has its own light!

.

I would like us to draw some lessons from this little exposition. The sun is a star, one of the small stars in the universe. Although the moon has no light, it is shinning so bright to an extent it is always celebrated even much more than the sunlight! Without the star called Sun, we wouldn’t have known that there is ever anything called a moon! Perhaps, we would regard it as one of those blabbing of the scientists! The moon is shinning and that’s why everyone including little children knows about it and celebrate it! We know there is a moon because we saw the moon shinning!

.

Okay… That’s about the moon! Let’s talk about you!

.

Who have noticed you? Have you really made any impact? Have your light been felt by people? Will anyone be ready to celebrate you?

.

I think you don’t need any Bible verse to get the point but let me give you a passage

.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)

“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life”. John 8:12 (NIV)

.

You cannot shine when you are not connected to the source! You are designed to be a light… You will do better than the moon on one condition… If you are connected to Jesus!

.

The moon needs a close star to shine… You need Jesus to shine!

.

God bless you.
