Experiencing total freedom from sin!
“Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin” 1 Peter 4:1
What do we arm ourselves with? The bible says it is with the mentality that we suffered in the flesh! Not because we really suffered but because Christ suffered for us! Not just that… Since he that has been suffered and punished for sin, we cannot be judged for sin anymore for sin was judged in Jesus. One might quickly ask, “how? but I did not really suffer?”, well, the Bible said Jesus suffered on our behalf and when we believe it, it will be credited to us as though we are the ones who suffered for our sins. Romans 6:8 says
“Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.”
You see that? In literal sense, we did not die for our own sins but by believing that Jesus died for your sins, you have received His performance to your credit! It will be counted to you as though it was you who died. That is why Paul continued that we believe we will also live with Him!
And now, by this mindset, the bible says we have ceased from sin! Glory to God! What does that mean?
It means… Sin have no place in our lives, sin have no power in our lives and sin cannot reign in and over us… It cannot have a say in our lives any more… This is what you need to arm yourself with! When you arm yourself with this mentality, something great happens… The next verse says it! You will no longer live the rest of your time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God!
I feel like preaching this night! If you really get this, you can’t just stand their! When you arm yourself with the mindset that Christ has suffered on your behalf and therefore the operations of sin has ceased in you, you’ll quickly see yourself living out what you have come to believe! When the Bible says you will no longer live your time in the flesh… It means you’ll no longer heed to the ideas of the flesh, you will no longer pay attention to what your flesh is saying… Because you have been transformed by the renewal of your mind! Glory!
The Bible says that with this mindset, you’ll rather live to the will of God! What is the will of God? I will show you! Let’s read Ephesians 1:4-5
“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestined us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will”
So, God’s will for us is to be holy and be without blame before him in love! Understand this, we may be with blame before Satan, we may be with blame before man but God has chose us to be without blame before Him! How did He do that? It will take us back to the first place we read! By giving up Christ to suffer in the flesh for our sake! We are holy and blameless before God! Not because of what we did but because of what Christ has done!
Brethren, this is God’s word, this is not the words of man and God can always be trusted!
I have ceased from sin! Hallelujah!
