when God is tired

In the Genesis account of creation, we discovered that the Bible recorded a rest that occurred on the seventh day which resulted to the seventh day of every week being Sabbath. It was symbolic! God did not literally went to bed, the word “rested” in Genesis is a Hebrew word “shabat” meaning “ceased or stopped”. The Bible never said that God needed rest; we just read that God rested on the seventh day! The corrected thing to say is that God stopped creating any new thing! Let’s read that portion of the scripture in Genesis 2:1-2,

“Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.”

Even a literal translation of the above verse doesn’t suggest that God was tired or weak and perhaps decided to take some sleep! It says that God was through with making the heavens and the earth and all the host of them, God was done with creation, with blessing and with putting everything in place. There was nothing left undone as he checkmated all he made, saw it was good and declared it good with blessings to accompany it! On the Seventh day, he ended his work as related to creation and then he stopped (rested) creating because he was done with creating. We may need to look at this place with another translation aside King James Version. The Living Bible puts it this way in verse 2,

“So on the seventh day, having finished his task, God ceased from this work he had been doing…”

You see that? God doesn’t have a break time. Take a look at Psalm 121:3-4 in the living bible translation,

“He will never let me stumble… for he is always watching.”

God is not a man; his systems are not the same with man! He never stops; he operates in a dynamic power that becomes only stronger and stronger! It is like a machine that becomes stronger the more it is used, there is no machine like that, only God fits this description!

I have often heard people sing songs like “God, the lion of the tribe of Judah, wake up from sleep and listen to your people”… What sort of rubbish song is that? God isn’t sleeping, he cannot want to sleep and he cannot sleep! It is not because he has decided not to sleep but there is nothing about any day that will make him sleep! He is there watching and observing… He has been awake before the beginning and he is awake forever! Hmmm, that is too hard to swallow but that is true about God!

You see, there is always a time when it seems like God is silent, we seem not to hear a voice and we seem not to get answers… in that sense we conclude that maybe he had gone to sleep! So many people have devised means of waking God from sleep; they tell you that you have to keep shouting that prayer point till the “Lion” wakes up from sleep! I have even heard a preacher describe God to people by giving an example with a Lion who wake from sleep, yawn and stretched itself in readiness to launch another attack or defence. As he described that with much charisma, the people were excited and shouting. What was there to be excited about? That God woke up from sleep? There were excited that God woke from sleep, how much more will they be if they were ever told the truth that since the beginning of the beginning that God have never felt tired, sleepy or sick? How much more would have happened if they were ever told that God will never let them fall because he is always watching?

The Psalmist gave a resounding picture of who God is and what he is capable of doing in Psalms 127:1-2, the Living Bible puts it this way,

“Unless the Lord builds a house, the builders’ work is useless. Unless the Lord protects a city, sentries do no good. It is useless to work so hard from early morning until late at night, fearing you will starve to death; for God wants his loved ones to get their proper rest.”

Reading this portion of the scripture relieved me from lots of things, even as I am reading it to you now, I felt like dancing and dancing and dancing again in joy! The builder must rely on God to build because God never gets tired, the securities must rely on God to watch over the city because God never ever go in to sleep… He is always active and yet not busy. What kind of God is this?

It doesn’t stop in just being awake! God is not watching us like we do on the television. Many times we stay up awake in the midnight to watch the news, we sit on our sofa, hold cookies in one hand and a glass of juice in the other hand. We drink and watch how terrorists bombed down a building, launch attacks in Paris, Nigeria and the rest of the world, we watch how people die in Plane crash but all we can do is to keep drinking, keep watching and keep pitying them! We can only watch them die, we can only allow those tears we couldn’t control run down our eyes, and we could only even put up calls to friends and rebroadcast the bad news to them… God is simply not like that!

He is not watching us like a movie, I think it is more right to say that he is watching over us or looking after us more than a father looks after his children! From the place we just read we see that God encourages not trusting in our struggles for there is no point waking up early and running off to make money and yet not trusting God! God wants his loved ones to get proper rest! He only wants it? No and he also brings it to pass in his own time. God said in Isaiah 46:10,

“Only I can tell you the future before it even happens. Everything I plan will come to pass, for I do whatever I wish.”

I feel like dancing again! Everything God wants is what he do, he doesn’t do what you want, he do it when he wants it and he knows what you need and when you need it! Relax and stop struggling! You have every reason to relax; you need to relax because for your sake God isn’t relaxing! That doesn’t mean God is working himself out, that doesn’t mean God is uncomfortable…. No! He is comfortable with working his purpose out! In fact, he finds comfort in what he do unlike us who find comfort while we are less busy!

You only need to one thing to see all these come to pass! You heard me right, I said it is just one thing that you need to do… Only a fool declares that there is no God, only a fool sees fault with the very message of life contained herein and only a fool will read and ignore this message that can even wake the dead man. All you need to do is well summarized in Psalms 32:5 which says in English Standard Version,

“Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and He will do act.”

I deliberately choose to read from ESV because of the word, “act”. God isn’t selfish; he is not asking you to commit yourself to him simply because he wants to entice all of us into submitting to him. Even if that is the case, he is rightfully your owner and maker! He remains God whether you accept it or not, rejecting him doesn’t lower his status just like accepting him doesn’t increase it, he is increase himself! You just need to commit your ways, your business, your life, and everything concerning you to the Lord… When you commit to him you trust in him! Some people commit to God just for trying sake! Even in business it doesn’t work that way… commitment alone doesn’t make it happen the way it should! You commit to him with trust, which is how it is in the bank. Many people trust the bank so much that they can pay in millions of dollars into a single bank account but they fail to trust God that much. God can only act when you allow him to, and you can only allow him by committing your ways to him in absolute trust. He is not tired and there is never a time God will be tired.

It all begins by taking a step to Jesus. When you take one step to him, he takes a thousand steps to you. Say yes to Jesus today, accept him as your personal Lord and saviour, commit your life to him in absolute trust and see you will see your life blossom into beauty, not any kind of beauty but the beauty of the Lord. God bless you!
