“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not Perish but have everlasting life” John 3:16

During the great reformation period against what seem to be a great shift from the biblical Christianity that labeled God as merciless fire, Martin Luther’s translation of the Bible was being printed in Germany. A printer’s daughter walked into the printing press and saw fallen papers of the scriptures. Before then, no one had told her much about God, no one had told her the extent of God’s love for the world and for her. She simply had no emotion for God as she viewed God from a certain perspective — God of Fire and Brimstone!

Right there inside the printing press, she picked up the fallen paper and it boldly reads:

“For God so loved the world, that He gave…”

The rest of the verse had not yet been printed but what she encountered through that glean information about God was enough to move her into tears. It was tears of joy! The thought that God would give something out of love was enough to transport her from fear to faith! Just like we saw in some previous devotions that faith doesn’t just come by hearing — fear too comes by hearing. Faith comes by hearing the word of God and fear comes by hearing the word of satan. Satan is always keen to communicate to people that God is not in love with man just the same way he told Eve that God doesn’t want anything good for them.

The sudden change of attitude in the Printer’s Daughter got her mother’s attention. She noticed a daughter who would always talk about God and talk about Him from an intimately powered mindset, she noticed an unusual happiness in her daughter. She decided to ask her what really caused all that. When she did, the daughter made available the crumbled piece of paper she had picked from the printing press. After her mother had read it, she thought for a while and asked, “what did he give?” The child was for a moment confused but her confusion did not last. She opened up and said

“I am not sure what He gave. But whatever would make Him give us anything is LOVE. If He loves us well enough to give us anything, we should not be afraid of Him”

God has given us something more than an endless love song, something more than an idea and something more than anything any man can ever offer. God didn’t gave us His crown, He didn’t gave us His reglia, He didn’t gave us His seal! In all His glory and majesty God gave us Himself! — God the Son.

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for your unfailing LOVE.
